Updated: Sep 29

A Mille Lacs County crash on Wednesday morning resulted in the death of a 53-year-old Rush City woman.

According to a news release from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office, a head-on collision involving two vehicles was reported on 280th Street in the area of 100th Avenue just before 6:30 a.m.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, a Toyota Camry was located fully engulfed in flames. A second vehicle — a Lincoln Navigator — had sustained heavy damage.

The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Rachael Morey, was determined to be deceased at the scene.

Deputies observed good Samaritans carrying away the driver of the Lincoln, identified as 24-year-old Little Falls resident Lucas Boros.

Boros was later transported by the Mille Lacs Health System Ambulance Service to a nearby hospital for further care.

Deputies learned that Dalton resident Dustin Bevins, Pierz resident Chad Boser, and Fergus Falls resident Joseph Schuman witnessed the crash and stopped to help.

The release states that they used fire extinguishers from their work vehicles to try to put out a fire that had started on the vehicles, and were able to break out the driver's door window of the Lincoln to remove Boros.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash.
