The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a potential homicide after human remains were found by county highway maintenance workers.
On Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office was contacted by workers in regards to human remains found in the 14200 block of Twilight Road.
Sheriff’s deputies and Mille Lacs Tribal Police officers responded to the scene and gathered information about the remains, which were found along the shoreline of Mille Lacs Lake. They were discovered in a tote the workers attempted to remove from the ditch during their duties.
A person of interest is in custody at the Mille Lacs County Jail.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is working with the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office and Tribal Police on the investigation.
