Minnesota Historical Society announces grant funding for area organizations

On Tuesday, the Minnesota Historical Society announced the recipients of over $430,000 in small grants, including funds for area organizations and nonprofits.

According to a news release, the Kanabec County Historical Society received $10,000 to hire an architect to conduct an assessment of the Coin School.

The school, which is located in Mora and was built to be a one-room schoolhouse in 1899, was recommended to be placed on the national registry of historic places earlier this year.

East Central Minnesota Pride was awarded just over $7,000 for a historical marker commemorating LGBTQ pride events in Pine City.

The organization is working with the city’s parks and rec committee on placement of a marker at Voyageur Park.

The Isanti County Historical Society, located in Cambridge, also received about $6,900 to purchase a microfilm reader to help make records more publicly accessible.

This cycle of grants was approved by the Historical Society's Executive Council on May 16.
