Minnesota Department of Transportation project manager Tom Cruikshank shared updates on planned construction projects in Mora during a recent interview with KBEK.
MnDOT will partner with the city of Mora and Kanabec County to construct a northbound left turn lane from Highway 65 onto Ninth Street this summer.
Cruikshank said MnDOT has heard concerns about the speed limit near the new high school, and said potential treatments to temper traffic are being explored as part of the Highway 65 corridor study.
"There are some kinds of treatments you can do to the highway," Cruikshank said. "Maybe create more of a boulevard type of situation, or perhaps some kind of intersection control, maybe in the Ninth Street area. It could be a roundabout, or some other kind of channelization of the highway that would temper that traffic and get it to slow down as it enters the community."
An urban reconstruction project is scheduled for 2030 for the Highway 65 and 23 corridor in Mora.
"It's going to be a major reconstruction project that's going to be the complete removal of pavement all the way out to the curb," Cruikshank said. "So we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at this corridor and do a study to help inform that project, and look at any other improvements other than the pavement that need to be done."
Cruikshank said the corridor study will take about a year to complete, and that MnDOT is currently in the community engagement part of the study.
