Mora man charged with first-degree attempted murder, allegedly tried to run over victim

A Mora man has been charged with first-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault after allegedly trying to kill a man by running him over with his truck.

According to the criminal complaint, Kanabec County Sheriff's Office deputies and EMS first responders were dispatched to a residence after a report of a medical emergency involving a male party who had fallen off a roof on Oct. 1.

A second call reported that a man had been run over with a truck at the address named in the first call.

At the residence, the victim initially told a deputy he had fallen off a roof. The deputy did not observe a roof near the victim's location, and noticed tire tracks leading to his location.

According to two female witnesses, an argument was heard outside the home between the victim and another man before a black flatbed truck drove toward the victim at a high rate of speed, attempting to hit the victim.

The witnesses said the truck successfully struck the victim after multiple attempts before leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

The criminal complaint states the victim sustained six broken ribs and a broken sternum in the incident.

The victim told the deputy Luke Morrison was the driver of the truck, and that he hit him due to being in an argument.

The other party in the argument admitted to the verbal altercation, and said he did not see the truck hit the victim, but admitted that Morrison was at his residence in a vehicle matching the description at the time of the incident.

In a statement from the victim on Oct. 4, he stated that he arrived to the residence on Oct. 1 for a welfare check due to prior mental health concerns. An argument allegedly began about family matters before Morrison drove into the driveway.

The victim stated he and Morrison have previously had problems, and that he ran toward the road when he saw him in the driveway. When he got to the road, Morrison allegedly turned around and yelled that he was going to "kill him."

The victim also said he was near the truck's transmission when Morrison allegedly backed up and yelled at him to "get out of there or he would finish the job."

Morrison's initial appearance in Kanabec County Court will be on Oct. 17.

He was also charged with a felony offense of making terroristic threats.
