Mora Public Schools faces substitute bus driver shortage

Mora Public Schools is experiencing a significant shortage of substitute school bus drivers.

According to a notice from Chip Brandt, the district's director of transportation, the shortage means that if even one of the regular drivers is unavailable, an entire route may be left temporarily without coverage.

In situations where an unexpected absence isn't able to be immediately filled, a "double run" for morning and afternoon routes may be implemented.

A driver would complete their scheduled run and return to cover the second, uncovered route.

According to the notice, if a morning bus is delayed, the replacement bus will be approximately 45-60 minutes delayed.

Students on a delayed afternoon route may need to wait at school after dismissal until the driver finishes their first route and returns.

The district will inform parents and guardians via the school notification system immediately after confirming a driver's absence.

The notice states that the district is actively recruiting and training new drivers to address the shortage.
