Mora Public Schools sets May date for special election

wcmpnews

Mora Public Schools will hold a special election on Tuesday, May 13, to fill a vacancy on the school board.

In November’s general election, Janel Murphy was elected to one of three open school board seats.

However, she withdrew from the race when her name was still on the ballot, and has declined to serve.

The school board is currently operating at full capacity after former board member Matt Heggernes was appointed to the seat in the interim.

Superintendent Dan Voce said the district is finalizing the process to open candidate filing.

"People will see that notification come out here fairly soon," Voce said. "Again, there are a lot of deadlines."

Voce also thanked Kanabec County auditor-treasurer Denise Snyder for helping the district navigate the special election process.

"Mora has done this in the past, too, with referendums and things of that sort, so it's not uncommon," he said.

Voting for the special election will take place at Mora City Hall from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 13.
