The Mustangs opened up the season at home against Maple Lake Tuesday night.
Mora won the tip and quickly scored. After they scored their defense was eager to get the ball back and they did, which allowed the offense to score again. They scored 4 points in a matter of 20 seconds. Their defense continued to play a full court press which lead to even more turnovers and more points for Mora. Maple Lake struggled to get to their front court and even when they did it wasn't long till a Mustang defender stole the ball and raced back to score. Even though Mora was quickly running away with the game they did get into foul trouble in the first half. They would commit 9 fouls in the opening half, though they had a large lead this was certainly an area they wanted to improve. Mora's defense held the Irish off the scoreboard nearly the entire first half. The only point Maple Lake could come up with was at the free throw line and that was 12 and a half minutes into the half. The Mustangs held a commanding 61-1 lead at the end of one.
The second half was no different, Mora's defense suffocated the Irish offense and the Mustangs couldn't be held from scoring. With an insurmountable lead at half they did slow down their scoring to show some sportsmanship, even though they easily could've scored over 100 points. Maple Lake did find some success from beyond the perimeter but that was about all the offense they could find. Mora put up 30 more points in the 2nd half while only giving up 12. The Mustangs ran away with a 93-13 victory! They were lead in scoring by senior Max Sampson with 24 points and 16 rebounds.
Mora is off to a white hot start. They'll look to keep it going at home as they welcome in Aitkin on Friday.
