Mora's Comeback Falls Short Against Rival Pine City

Mora hosted Pine City on Monday night.

What a better way to start the week than with a rivalry game, and it exceeded all the hype.

Pine City dominated early in the 1st set jumping out to a 15-5 lead. Mora would make a late surge to cut into the Dragons commanding lead, but it was not enough as Pine City won the opening set 25-15. The 2nd set started out in the Dragons favor once again taking an early lead. They were able to hold onto said lead late into the set. But Mora would not go away quietly, pulling within only a few points of the Dragon lead. Pine City managed to get to set point leading 24-18, that's when the Mustangs turned on the heat. They would go to score 7 straight points and take set point themselves. Both teams battled hard trading points back and forth. The Mustangs however were able to win the set 29-27. With the match tied at one, both teams were looking for a way to pull the game in their favor. Pine City was able to do this in the 3rd set once again gaining an early lead. The Mustangs fought back but fell short 25-16. The 4th set saw Mora pull any and all momentum their way. They were able to jump out to the early lead and never looked back. Confident play and great execution helped them to a 25-20 set win. Tied at 2 the match reached its 5th and final set. The Mustangs would once again look for a come from behind win, as they seemed to be carrying all momentum heading into the set. However, Pine City was able to jump on top early to a 6-0 lead. Early on it looked like the Dragons would run away with it. But yet again Mora would not go down without a fight. They erased the 6 point deficit and pull within 2 of the Dragons lead. Pine City was able to hold strong and win the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.

With the win Pine City moves to 11-7 on the season and 4-2 in section play. They will host East Central on Tuesday night.

After the loss Mora sit at 5-16 on the year and 3-3 in section play. They travel to Albany on Tuesday night.
