Mora Takes Down Pine City and Moves to 2-0

A clash of two unbeatens in high school football occurred on Friday with the Dragons traveling to Mora to face the Mustangs. The Mustangs were looking to extend their streak over to double digit consecutive victories over the Dragons. Pine City, on the other hand, was looking to go to 2-0 for the first time since the fall of 2014. Mora opened the game with the ball and opened the scoring just over two and a half minutes later on a Ben Wright five-yard touchdown run. They would tally two more on their side with a Nick Nelson run on the two-point conversion. Later in the first quarter, Nelson would go for six of his own on a three-yard run. This would extend the Mustang lead to 16-0 after another successful two-point attempt.

In the second quarter, Mora picked up right where they left off with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Anderson to Wright. Another touchdown would be scored right before the end of the half by Cody Haggberg on a two-yard scamper. Mora would go onto take a 28-0 into the half.

The Dragons never quit, though, as they were able to hold the Mustangs scoreless in the third quarter. Pine City would also tally the first points in the second half with a Timmy Johnson three-yard touchdown run. The touchdown was Johnson’s second of the young season.

Mora would go on to tally one more touchdown to bring the game to its final score of 36-6. Mora looks to continue their winning ways next week at home against the Aitkin Gobblers. The Dragons will look to bounce back next week at home against the 1-1 Esko Eskomos. The Pine City vs. Esko game can be found on 106.5 FM, 1350 AM, and streamed live on wcmpradio.com.
