MSHSL Board to Meet Monday to Discuss Return of Football and Volleyball

Blaine Novak, president of the Minnesota State High School League’s Board of Directors, has called for a special meeting of the League’s board for Monday, Sept. 21, 2020 at 9 a.m.

The one item agenda is listed as: Reconsider Placement of Fall Activities Seasons.

The meeting will be held in a virtual format.

“The Minnesota State High School League continues its work of providing the safest possible way for students to participate in all League activities and athletics for the 2020-2021 school year,” League Executive Director Erich Martens said. “This special meeting called by Board President Blaine Novak will be a continuation of those very important discussions and decisions.”


The MSHSL board help a special workshop on Tuesday that lasted four hours and no decisions were made. The next regularly scheduled board meeting was set for October 1st, but if the MSHSL were to approve the return of football and volleyball they will need to do so sooner in order to have time to get in games.


MSHSL schools will be asked to provide feedback before Monday's board meeting.


According to the Star Tribune, the earliest potential dates for fall football games would be Oct. 2, with first practices Sept. 21. Volleyball matches could start Oct. 22, with first practices Oct. 12.
