Mustangs Defeat Pine City to Advance to Championship Game

The Mora Mustangs are heading to the Section 6AA Boys Basketball Championship game on Friday night after defeating Pine City 57-51.


It was a back and forth battle all night as both teams traded buckets in front of a packed St. Cloud State University crowd. Both schools were represented well from fans of both teams.


Pine City made a basket late in the first half to go up 30-28 right at halftime. Pine City threatened to pull away late but Lucas Athey's heroics came alive late in the second half again after he hit several big three pointers down the stretch to give Mora the lead and the victory. The Mustangs were led by Ben Wright who scored 19 points. Athey added 16 for the Mustangs. They also received seven points from Steffen and Lillienthal and Rasmussen scored 6.


Koleman Lind once again led Pine City in scorign with 14 points. Caleb Fromm scored nine. Knnor Jusczak had 8, Kameron Jusczak 7, Duke Waxberg 5, and Christian Fromm and Seth Logan each had 4.


The Dragons season comes to a close with a 26-3 record. They graduate six seniors. Koleman Lind, Tanner Wicktor, Duke Waxberg, Konnor Jusczak, Christian Fromm, and Seth Logan. All players who will leave lasting impacts on the Pine City Dragon Basketball program and community. Thank you seniors!


Mora improved to 22-7 on the season and they advance to the championship game. They will take on #4 seed Melrose at 6:00 on Friday night at St. Cloud State. You can listen to that game on 106.5 FM/AM 1350 and streaming video at wcmpradio.com.
