Mustangs Run Past Crusaders for Victory

The Mora boys basketball team hosted St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday night.

Both teams came out in the first half firing. Cathedral got out to an early lead, but a 12-0 run by the Mustangs pushed them ahead by 8 points. Both offenses continued to be on target all first half. The defenses had a tough time trying to slow the pace of the scoring, but also had their moments. Mora would go on small scoring runs and pull ahead by double digits, then the Crusaders offense was get back on track and the defense would follow. Late in the half Mora was up by 9 looking to go up by double digits and swing all momentum in their favor. But Cathedral got things rolling once again and closed the gap to 4 before half, 39-35.

At the start of the 2nd half the Mustangs quickly jumped out to an 11 point lead. Cathedral was able to tuck their deficit back under 10 points but not for long. Mora's offense quickly began to pull away. And before too long the double digit lead stayed and Mora was firing on all cylinders. Their defense was also a big part of their 2nd half success, holding the Crusaders to 25 points. The Mustangs were able to put in all of their bench players at the end of the game to get them some valuable varsity minutes. They closed out the game and came away with an 83-60 victory.

Mora moves to 9-7 with the win and gains some momentum going into an important game. They'll host Albany on Friday in a rematch from earlier in the season.
