Chisago Lakes hosted North Branch on Tuesday.
Coming into the night there was a lot on the line for both teams, a win could potentially push them into the #2 seed in their sections, but you also get the pride of beating the other team and getting another conference win.
Even with all that, it was there annual Pink Out night, where money donated went to foundations to help with cancer!
The teams though were able to get out on the court and focus on the game.
In the 1st set the Vikings scored first and held control for the most of the set. The Wildcats went on a small run, but it was not enough, as North Branch finished off the set 25-16.
The 2nd set was vastly different, the Wildcats jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, thanks to a couple of serve aces. The Vikings were able to stop the run and go on one of their own to get within two of the Wildcat lead. Chisago was able to hold onto the lead till midway through the set before the Vikings tied the score. It then turned into a back and forth battle, when one team would score the other would return the favor and the teams were deadlocked. North Branch was able to set up their power hitter with some key sets, and she delivered to help her team once again finish off the set with a 25-19 win.
In the 3rd set, neither team was able to swing momentum in their favor. We again saw the teams trade points, and the lead early and often. This would continue for most of the set until late. North Branch was able to find some open spots for kills, and forced Chisago into a few mistakes to help them take a lead. The Wildcats wouldn't go away though, they fought through the mistakes and scored. But the Vikings had now reached match point and were looking to put away the game. Down by six, Chisago stepped up and made a couple big blocks and kills to start a comeback. Point after point it felt as if the Wildcats were going to pull it off. But a serve error would end the game giving the Vikings the 3rd set win 25-22 and the match 3-0.
The regular season ends for both squads and they now prepare for playoffs beginning next Wednesday.
