North Branch Man Facing Murder Charges after Allegedly Running Over Teen

A 20-year-old North Branch man is facing murder charges after he allegedly killed a 17-year-old with his car in Forest Lake. According to the criminal complaint, Forest Lake Police officers responded to Lakeside Veteran’s Memorial Park early Sunday morning with the report of a person being struck by a car.

Through Interviews with witnesses, officers learned that two groups of people had engaged in physical fights. Participants were reportedly armed with a baseball bat, hammers, a crowbar, and a knife.

After the conflict de-escalated, two people reportedly got into a Mazda sedan. The driver was said to be Dylan Robert Simmons.

The complaint said that Simmons intentionally drove at a group of people. After he backed up and drove at them a second time, Simmons reportedly struck the teen girl and drove over her with both the vehicle’s front and rear tires.

The report was confirmed by a 15-second video, recorded by a witness, of Simmons driving over the victim before leaving the scene.

He was later arrested and has been charged with third-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide.
