One in Custody following Fatal House Fire in Chisago County

An investigation is underway in Fish Lake Township, located in northwest Chisago County, following an apparent arson fire that left a man deceased and a woman severely injured.


Deputies responded to a home in the 400 block of Cambridge Drive at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2023, following 911 calls about an intentionally set fire. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a male victim and a female victim outside of the home with significant burn injuries. The Cambridge Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire. The Rush City Fire Department and the Braham Fire Department also responded to assist.


The male victim was taken by Lifelink air ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN where he died on June 4th. The female victim was taken by Allina EMS ground ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN where she remains in critical, but stable condition.


A suspect in the incident has been taken into custody based on information obtained thus far in the investigation. Charges are expected in the coming days. No other suspects are being sought at this time and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.


The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in its investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the State Fire Marshal and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional updates as the investigation progresses.
