The City of Pine City has waived its application fees for al fresco dining permits.
The city council met with local businesses during a Friday, May 22, emergency meeting to discuss Governor Tim Walz's executive order, which lessened restrictions and allowed restaurants to serve customers outdoors.
Since some businesses in Pine City lack outdoor seating, the city proposed an interim ordinance that would temporarily allow expanded outdoor seating into private parking lot spaces or public right-of-way areas. It will also allow city staff to approve permits without having to wait for council approval.
Applications will require a COVID-19 preparedness plan, liability insurance, and a site plan. City staff will work with businesses that serve alcoholic beverages to modify liquor licenses as a part of their site plan.
Pine City recommends that outdoor seating should not exceed 50 people with tables of four to six, six feet apart.
Some restrictions were lifted as of Monday, allowing restaurants to open for outdoor dine-in services.
The temporary ordinance was approved by the council during its Thursday, May 28, meeting.
