The Pine City boys basketball team took on Hinckley-Finlayson last night.
Pine City was favored in this matchup, but the Jaguars didn’t let that deter their effort. Neither team could get on the board in the first two and a half minutes of the game. But the Dragons would end the drought scoring the first points of the game. Pine City used the momentum from scoring first to dominate the first half of play. Kameron Jusczak lead the Dragons with 11 points in the first half, helping give Pine City a 35-16 lead at halftime. The Dragons came out of the half strong building a 43-20 lead in the first couple of minutes. But the Jaguars team came alive and started to mount a comeback. The Jaguars went on a 23-8 run, lead by Lathaniel Kroschel and Cedric Lefave. The Jaguars pulled themselves within 8 points of tying the game. But the Dragons would end the run and take control of the game. Pine City went on a run of their own, scoring 19 while holding the Jaguars to 5 for the rest of the game. The Dragons came out on top 70-48.
Pine City moves to 8-1 on the season. The Dragons will play on the road in Rush City on Thursday at 715pm. The Jags fall to 3-5, despite the loss they should be encouraged they showed everyone how well they can play. The Jaguars host Braham on Friday night at 545pm.
