Pine City Hires Varsity Football and Girls' Hockey Coaches

Football

The Pine City Dragons now know who their varsity football coach will be for the 2020 fall season. During the Monday, April 13th board meeting it was announced that Nate Fort and Andrew Burger would be co-coaches of the varsity football team.

Pine City Superintendent Dr. Tryggestad told WCMP, "They proposed the situation and explained themselves and went through the interview process separately and then as a team at the end and we were satisfied that they had a good plan in place to be able to do it a little different but I have a lot of confidence in those two individuals."

Burger and Fort will be replacing Jared Polzine who stepped down after 11 years as the Dragons head coach. The Dragons open up the 2020 season on Thursday, September 3rd, in Braham.

Girls' Hockey

The first ever Dragon Girls' Hockey coach has been announced too. Bill Aagaard has been chosen for the position. It was announced in June 2019 that Pine City had approved a girl's hockey program. Aaagaard has been a fixture in the hockey program in this community. He played for Pine City high school and has coached a lot of youth teams. Dr. Tryggestad said, " We are happy to have him in place."

Dr. Tryggestad added that they have a full schedule in place for the girl's hockey team and "the Good Lord willing and we're past the pandemic things, we are ready to start."

The team's first practice is scheduled for October 26, 2020 and their first game is November 5th.
