Princeton played Grand Rapids on Thursday night.
The Tigers made their way up to Hermantown for the section championship. They played a team they played in the first game of the season and beat. But both teams came in a full season under their belt.
A trip to state was on the line and both teams came out ready to prove they deserve to go to state. The first set was a back and forth battle, neither team was able to take a lead larger than a couple of points. It wasn't till the very end of the set that the Thunderhawks took the advantage and scored the final few points needed to win the set 25-20.
The 2nd set saw the Tigers get off to a hot start and put the Hawks on the heels early. Princeton lead for a majority of the set, but Rapids battled back and slowly but surely mounted a comeback and tied the set late. All momentum that Princeton once had, was quickly wiped away and now they had been put on their heels. The Tigers kept their heads high and continued to battle hard. The set drew into extra points but Princeton won the set 26-24.
The 3rd set was yet another set where Princeton was off and running early to a 4-0 start. Again they forced Rapids to play from behind, but again the Hawks made the comeback. This time the Tigers were not able to hold off the Hawks and they lost the set 25-20.
In the 4th Grand Rapids was out to an early large lead, and while the Tigers continued to battle it was not enough. The Tigers dropped the 4th 25-14 and lost the match 3-1.
The Tigers finish the season as section runners up and deserve to be proud of themselves. They will return all but two of their players from this years squad.
Congrats to Princeton on a great season!
