The city council passed a resolution at their December 11th meeting to allow the Princeton Fire Department to temporarily increase their firefighter force. The 37 member department has an allotted limit of 40 which was moved up to at least 45.
Princeton Fire Chief Ron Lawrence told the council that the department is looking to add new firefighters and extending the limit allows the new hires to have the time for necessary training and learn methods & procedures. These additions are to brace for a retirement surge to be expected in 2023.
Lawrence also stated that being proactive and ahead of the situation will help prevent any disruptions in service to the community.
The department is looking to add 8 new firefighters with four in 2021 and four more in 2022.
