Reward announced for information about fatal Mille Lacs hit-and-run

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has announced a $10,000 reward for information about a fatal Mille Lacs hit-and-run crash on Nov. 13.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 169 in Kathio Township struck and killed a 56-year-old Onamia woman just before 5 p.m.

The Midwest Medical Examiner identified the victim as Cathy Donovan, a longtime physician for the Mille Lacs Health System.

At a press conference on Wednesday, county sheriff Kyle Burton said the crash has had a lingering impact on the community.

"This hit my community very hard because she was so well-known among many people, not just folks in the law enforcement profession," Burton said. "But, again, somebody knows something, and our hope is that somebody does the right thing."

Members of Donovan's family spoke at the conference to ask someone to step forward with information in the case.

"I'm having a hard time accepting that Cathy's dead," said George Donovan, Cathy's father.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office or the state patrol.
