Shafer Man Arrested after Assaulting Clerk, Ramming Chisago Co. Squad Car

A 47-year-old Shafer man is in custody after assaulting a convenience store clerk Monday morning.

Law enforcement responded to the assault in the City of Shafer just before 10 a.m., and following the attack, authorities were told the suspect fired a handgun and had smashed a windshield.

Chisago County Deputies learned that the suspect had fled the scene but identified the man as Benjamin Michael Juneau.

Deputies made contact with Juneau outside his home when law enforcement said he accelerated at a high rate of speed and rammed an occupied squad car. During the incident, three deputies fired their service weapons at Juneau before he was taken into custody.

Juneau reportedly sustained minor injuries from the crash and has been booked into the Chisago County Jail for felony second-degree assault.

An ongoing investigation by the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office and the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is currently being conducted.
