The Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal one-vehicle crash in Maywood Township on Tuesday.
According to a news release, a witness reported a vehicle involved in a rollover accident at about 2:30 p.m.
Deputies observed a Kia Rondo lying on its roof in the south ditch of 115th Street Northeast.
Two people found in the vehicle had sustained life-threatening injuries. 33-year-old Sauk Rapids man Joseph McCullough was pronounced dead at the scene.
56-year-old Yvette Slack, of Foreston, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.
Investigators believe the Kia was traveling eastbound on 115th Street Northeast when it veered into the ditch.
The vehicle became airborne after striking a driveway approach.
Deputies found evidence that suggested excessive speed and driver impairment were likely factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
