Suspect in Custody After Murder in Mora

Press Release from Kanabec County Sheriff's Office:

On Friday, February 11th at approximately 12:30pm, Kanabec County Deputies responded to the Mora AmericInn on a welfare check for the occupants. The Deputies located a 40 year old adult female deceased in the room. The other registered occupant was no longer in the room.

The MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called to assist in the investigation and to forensically process the crime scene. The victim was identified as Christeen Jo Massey, most recently of Mora. A suspect was developed quickly and members of the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office and East Central Drug and Violent Offender Task Force worked on locating the suspect.

Once the suspect was located in a mobile home he had been previously trespassed from, it was surrounded. Negotiations with the suspected continued through the cold for hours with no movement. Assistance was requested from the Pine County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and use of their armored vehicle.

Once on scene, negotiators were in a safer position to convince the suspect give himself up without further violence. The suspect was booked into the Kanabec County Jail pending charges from the Kanabec County Attorney’s Office.

The suspect was identified as Jackson Duce Johnson, a 31 year old male, also of Mora. Johnson and Massey were known to be in a relationship.
