Braham City Council holds special meeting on proposed 2024 budget

The Braham City Council held a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the proposed budget for 2024.

The proposed tax levy is up $400,000 from 2023, to nearly $1,820,000. That mark represents a 29% increase in the levy.

This comes after the property tax levy rose by more than 40% from 2022 to 2023.

The council directed city staff to research a proposal on staffing cuts and to determine if cuts can be made to proposed capital outlay figures without totally sacrificing savings.

Braham will also explore asking the state legislature about imposing a local sales tax option to aid in funding major upcoming city expenses.

The city council is required to set a preliminary budget in September.
