The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Department has seen a rise of reported thefts of catalytic converters in the area.
This comes after the department reported a converter being stolen from a truck at a public access landing earlier in May.
The department states that a majority of the thefts took place at public lake accesses around Mille Lacs and Shakopee Lakes occurring during the day and night.
Some cases have also been reported to have occurred in driveways and yards, particularly with vehicles that haven’t been used in some time.
The Sheriff’s department will be proactively patrolling public accesses for better enforcement but that citizens should take extra precautions as well as never leave anything valuable in the vehicle.
