Kanabec County Sees Rise in Seasonal Respiratory Illnesses

Seasonal respiratory viruses are "alive and well" in Minnesota, according to Kanabec County Community Health Director Kathy Burski.

In an update at Tuesday's county board meeting, Burski said reported COVID infections rose from October to November in Kanabec, and that the combination of COVID, RSV, and the flu has put stress on area hospitals.

Minnesota schools report influenza-like-illness outbreaks when the number of students absent is 5% of total enrollment. Burski said 240 schools in the state met that threshold in the week ending Nov. 19, a number that was expected to be lower.
