The Kanabec County Board continued discussions regarding clean-up costs and efforts on tax forfeited properties during their first meeting of June.
Several residents and townships have voiced their complaints about current properties conditions and efforts being made to clean up debris. The county stated that some of the properties are still currently dealing with eviction procedures and Covid protocols and don’t wish to pay for storage of the possessions.
The county brought forth creating an action committee to assess individual parcels and weigh clean-up costs with potential sales. The board was concerned with taking departments such as the highway division away from their daily tasks to perform out of responsibility tasks.
County staff and public works will continue to work on potential guidelines and 3rd party services partnerships to help reduce costs and speed up cleaning efforts.
