Milaca Falls to Sauk Centre in Section Championship Game

wcmpsports5

The Lady Wolves made their way to Halenbeck Hall on Friday to play the Mainstreeters.

The Streeters got out to an early advantage and showed why they were the #1 seed in the section. The combination of size and speed plus their defensive prowess. But the Wolves arguably had the best defense, and it didn't take long for them to settle in and find their groove. The Wolves defense came up with some big stops and their offense took advantage by scoring points. The 1st half was close and neither team held a clear advantage over the other. In fact it seemed like Milaca needed just one thing to go their way and they were off to the races. But SC hit a few more shots inside with their bigs and took a lead into half 33-21.

It certainly didn't feel like a 12 point deficit, the game was well within reach for the Wolves. But SC made adjustments at half that Milaca couldn't seem to figure out. Turnovers were also alittle bit of an issue for the Wolves. Their defense continued to battle but were simply outmatched by the size of SC. Their offense was not a potent as the 1st half either and sadly this helped the Streeters to pull away. The final SC 60, Milaca 37.

Though this brings the season to a close for the Wolves, it was a heck of a season and one they'll forever be proud of. The seniors, Bella Sahlstrom, Ashley Droogsma, Grace Hasz and Willow Hunt will undoubtedly be missed. But the future is also bright for this team.

Scoring

Milaca:

Madison Gothmann 11

Willow Hunt 10

Ashley Droogsma 7

Annabelle Gothmann 5

Bella Sahlstrom and Kylee Johnson 2

Congrats to Milaca on a great season!
