The Wolves traveled to Pine City on Friday night.
Both these teams were looking to head into the weekend with a win. Pine City came off a hard fought loss to Rush City, Milaca came in having beat Little Falls 3-0.
Pine City was able to get off to a fast start, jumping out to a lead first. But once Milaca settled in their experience began to take over. The Wolves decided to go with many substitutions to keep their girls refreshed, as they have a good amount of depth this season. Milaca began to slowly but surely pull away and took the 1st set 25-15.
The 2nd set was a turning point for Pine City, they were able to settle into the game and play a little more freely. While the Wolves lead for a good chunk of the 2nd set, the Dragons were within a couple points throughout. The Dragons fought hard and had closed the little gap there was and looked bound to take the lead and even win the set. But the Wolves tightened things up on their end and finished off the 2nd set with a win 25-20.
As the 3rd set began, Milaca came out confident and so did Pine City. Despite being down 2-0, they knew they had not yet been at their best and could easily turn the game around. While Milaca did wind up winning the third set 25-16, the Dragons still fought hard till the very end.
Milaca moved to 5-1 with the win, and will travel to Pequot Lakes tonight.
Pine City falls to 0-2 and will host Proctor tonight.
