Minnesota DNR puts open burning restrictions in place

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is restricting open burning due to increased wildfire risk in central Minnesota.

Restrictions went into place on Monday for Chisago and Isanti counties. They will begin on Wednesday for Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Benton, and Sherburne counties.

The DNR will not issue permits for open burning of brush or yard waste until those restrictions are lifted.

According to a news release, warm temperatures and dry conditions have elevated the risk of wildfires. Restrictions will be adjusted as conditions change.

DNR officials recommend residents find alternatives to burning, such as composting or taking yard waste to a collection site.
