Mustangs top Wolves in Battle of Old Rivals

Mora and Milaca faced off in the newest edition of the highway 23 rivalry between the Mustangs and Wolves. Old foes who faced off in the Rum River and Granite Ridge Conferences over the years. Starting last season this battle became a non-conference and non-section matchup.

This game started out slowly. Both teams were struggling to get anything going offensively. The score was tied at ten with 10:00 left to go in the first half. That is when Mora found some success. A 20-0 run at that point propelled the Mustangs to a 41-16 lead heading into the halftime break.

The second half was a lot like the first. Each bucket was hard earned. Something that you would expect in a game against two teams that have seen each other plenty of times over the years. The Mustangs, however, held on to the lead and built off of it. Mora came away with a 71-34 victory over the Wolves.

Milaca did have some success as well. The Wolves are a tough group. They made things difficult for the Mustangs for large stretches. That will serve them well heading into the Granite Ridge schedule.

Milaca fell to 0-5 and will head to Pine City to face the Dragons on Monday.

Mora improved to 4-0 and will travel to Esko tonight.
