Wolves Claim Victory Over Jags on the Road

The Milaca boys traveled to Hinckley on Monday.

The 1st half between these two teams was a defensive battle. Neither team was able to take a lead of more than 4 points. The defenses played well but fouls did pile up in the 1st half for the Wolves. But this aggressiveness did pay dividends, because it allowed them to pile up the takeaways. Unfortunately, they weren't able to capitalize on those by turning them into points, which allowed the Jags to keep momentum on their side. While H-F lead for much of the opening half, their offense struggled to get in rhythm. But their defense played well enough, a big reason why was the rebounds. They allowed very few second or third chance opportunities for Milaca, which allowed them to eat up the time of possession. The Jags looked to go into half with the lead but a turnover and a quick score by Milaca tied the game and the teams headed into halftime tied at 22.

Milaca used that late score as momentum to start the 2nd half, continuing to force turnovers and they were able to score some points off of them. They quickly built up a lead and eventually it reached double digits. The Jags offense couldn't get the ball inside for any easy layups, and were only able to hit one three all game. Their defense did its job to keep them in the game, down by a few possessions. As the 2nd half neared its end, the Wolves still lead by double digits, but the Jags continued to work to cut the deficit to 4 points. Now the Jags finally had their offense working, and were coming up with key stops to get the ball back. The Wolves lead had shrunk to 2 points, but the Wolves were quickly able to work it back up to 6. In the final minutes the Jags knew their chances were growing smaller, but they still knew their offense had been moving well so they had a chance. But Milaca came up with 5-6 turnovers and scored on each of them to put the game away and get the win 58-46.
