Wolves Defeat Mustangs in High Energy Battle

Mora welcomed in Milaca on Monday night.

While these two teams are no longer conference foes, it certainly felt like a conference rivalry.

Milaca was able to take an early lead in set one, but they were never able to grow the lead more than only a couple points. The Mustangs kept the set close thanks to their senior leadership. There were very few mistakes in the set, and most of the points came from very well placed hits. There were points in the set where it seemed like the ball may never touch the floor. Both sides were playing so well and fighting so hard for each and every point. Mora was able to take the lead late in the set, but it didn't last long as Milaca retook the lead and won the set 25-23.

The 2nd set was similar to the first but one team was able to swing momentum on their side. That team was Milaca, they were able to force a few mistakes from Mora and capitalized on that and pulled away. But late in the set down by 10, Mora was able to get the ball back on their side. They were able to string together a few points and now it seemed like a comeback was on the horizon. But the Wolves were able to stop the run and score the final point to win the 2nd 25-17.

The 3rd set did a complete 180, as the Mustangs swung momentum their way quickly and early on. They took a big lead and late the Wolves scored a few points to start their comeback. But Mora closed out the set winning 25-18.

What was in store for the 4th set, nobody knew. What we did know was that it was going to be a very entertaining. And it was, much like the first set neither team could get a lead more than a couple points. The Wolves did get a 4 point lead midway through the set, but Mora quickly evened up the score. And again the set went back and forth, and the intensity picked up but in a positive way. Late in the set with each side trying to get something to break their way to help them pull away, it was the Wolves who would do so. They were able to score the final few points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.

The Wolves will now head to St. Cloud Cathedral for their next big matchup.

The Mustangs will host a conference matchup vs Braham.
