Grant Helping Lower Youth Substance Abuse in Pine County

A grant that is helping lower substance abuse in young people in Pine County just hit its one year mark.

The team in charge of the grant has reported a positive showing, and are slightly under-budget.

Goals of the team include reducing underage alcohol use, and Grant Coordinator Lynette Forbes-Cardey said the positive impact goes on even after the grant runs out, and that the decline of substance abuse continues when it ends.

The team is also adding safeguards in schools through new substance abuse curriculum in coordination with Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center.

The Pine County Chemical Health Coalition is the public face of the grant.
