City of North Branch Considers Franchise Fees to Pay for Roads
The City of North Branch is considering franchise fees to cover funding for road work.
A portion of the city’s budget that covered maintain roads was removed in 2009 and hasn’t been replaced.
Based on the size and scope of the repairs needed and future maintenance required, it would cost the city 1.25 million dollars per year.
In response, the city is considering using franchise fees to satisfy those needs and is hosting public meetings to help inform the public.
The first opportunity to learn more about this topic will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at North Branch City Hall.
There will be a full meeting on November 14th with the final decision being made November 28th.
Lakes and Pines Offers Grocery to Home Service
The Lakes and Pines Community Action Council is making known a program aimed at senior services.
The Groceries to Go Home Delivery Service helps bring groceries to those who are unable for a variety of reasons.
It’s open to those 60 and up who are living independently in parts of Kanabec, Pine, Chisago, Isanti, and Mille Lacs counties and offered on a sliding pay scale.

ACT on Alzheimer's Showing Film and Hosting Speakers in PC
ACT on Alzheimer’s in Pine City is hosting an event next month to inform and raise awareness.
Held at the Pine City High School Auditorium, they’ll be showing a documentary called “Every Minute Counts”.
They’ll also be hosting speakers from the Alzheimer’s Association, Fairview, Ecumen, and Pine County Public Health along with informational booths as well.
The event is October 15th in the Pine City High School Auditorium at 2 pm.
Operation Community Connect: Free Flu Shots and More
Operation Community Connect is a one-day opportunity to benefit those experiencing homelessness and other challenges of poverty to receive help.
Participants receive a hot meal, free flu shot and other health screenings, and more.
They’ll also be able to take winter clothes, jackets, and blankets.
The event is Tuesday, October 24th from 10 am until 2 pm at the Hinckley Community Center.
