Becker Township man accidentally shot during youth hunting event

A 45-year-old Becker Township man was injured Sunday after being accidentally shot by his 12-year-old daughter at a youth hunting event.

According to a press release from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, the man was supervising his daughter in a deer stand at about 7:50 on Sunday morning.

The girl shot a deer before firing a second shot that struck her father in the leg.

The release states that she had an apprentice hunter validation. She was participating in a DNR event allowing supervised youth to hunt with firearms before the traditional deer season opener.

Becker firefighters helped the man out of the deer stand, and he was treated at North Memorial Health Hospital for his injuries.
