North Branch To Move Forward With Body Cameras

The city of North Branch held a public comment period last week in regards to body camera for local police officers.

The department has taken state legislative guidelines into account, with policies regarding proper conduct with the cameras and regulations on what an officer may record.

While no members of the public voiced their opinions on the matter, council stated their approval of the investment with Council Member Kelly Neider saying its the right thing to do.

"This is an excellent way to not only protect our officers, but also to be transparent and protect our citizens as well."

The North Branch Police Department will look to purchase their equipment from Motorola due to cost-saving and ease of integration. The equipment is estimated to cost just under $25,000 for the first year.

Staff will begin approving the policy, the police department will purchase the equipment in the coming months with council approval.
