Softball Season Recap

The regular season has ended and we're now set for playoffs to start for the local teams.

Ogilvie 1-16

QRF Ranking: 108th in State 6th in Section 5A East

It was a tough year for the Lions. They grabbed their lone victory over Eagles 20-12. Their season came to an end at the hands of the Jaguars from Hinckley-Finlayson.

Mora 12-9

QRF Ranking: 34th in State 4th in Section 7AA

The Mustangs opened up the season with three straight wins. A tough patch in the middle of the season saw them lose four straight games. But after the losing streak, they went on to win four straight games. The Mustangs won their opening playoff game against Aitkin 11-4. They will play against #1 seeded Proctor on Thursday.

Foley 7-12

QRF Ranking: 59th in State 12th in Section 6AA

The Falcons had an up and down year. After starting off the year with two losses, they went on a 4 game winning streak. But a six game losing streak provided a set back. Despite that they battled hard and won two of their last three games. Unfortunately their season was ended by Holdingford in the playoffs.

Milaca 2-19

QRF Ranking: 103rd in State 16th in Section 6AA

The Wolves had their lone win of the season against Little Falls. But when playoffs start, anything can happen. Milaca's bats were hot in their opening playoff game against Staples-Motley, as they won 17-0. They ran into a tough Pierz team who ended their hopes of a deep run.

North Branch 11-9

QRF Ranking: 18th in State 2nd in Section 7AAA

The Vikings were 11-4 coming into the final stretch of the regular season. They would end on a sour note losing five straight. But they can forget about that as now the playoffs start. North Branch has a good enough team to make their way to the section championship. The road to that game starts today as they host Duluth Denfeld at 4pm.

Princeton 2-18

QRF Ranking: 58th in State 8th in Section 7AAA

The Tigers grabbed a 5 inning win over Duluth Denfeld to open the season, but wouldn't grab another victory till late in the season. In their final regular season game, they played Chisago Lakes. Though the Tigers lost, they held the #1 seed to only 4 runs. Princeton will have another shot at the Wildcats today. Their performance against them the first time should give them a lot of motivation. They'll certainly be looking to play spoiler.

Cambridge-Isanti 4-15

QRF Ranking: 55th in State 7th in Section 7AAAA

The Bluejackets record doesn't tell the whole story. This is a team who had many games where they were one bounce away from victory. C-I could be a squad that surprises a couple of people as they move through the section playoffs. They'll travel down to Blaine to take on the Bengals in the first round today.
