The North Branch Vikings hosted the Chisago Lakes Wildcats last night in the Section 5A Quarter finals.
The Vikings were able to get themselves on the board first. Alex Langevin scored the goal midway through the 1st period. The Wildcats had plenty of opportunities to score, but North Branchs’ Jake Turek defended the net well. The Vikings took their 1-0 lead into the 2nd period. Both defenses and goalies were tough to get by in the 2nd period. Neither goalie allowed a puck to get by them in the period, and both teams started to land big hits. Going into the 3rd period it seemed as if we were heading to a wild finish. Logan Mehlhorn got the Wildcats on the board early in the period to tie the game at one. A short five minutes later Mehlhorn would score again putting his team on top 2-1. The Vikings were unable to answer the final goal, and the Wildcats would go on to win.
The Wildcats will advance to the semi final round, where they will play the Dragons in Pine City on Saturday night. The loss ends the Vikings season, but when they look back on the season they should be proud of such a good season.
