Dragons Host Huskers in Playoffs Tonight

Boys Basketball

The Pine City Dragons Boys Basketball team is celebrating a share of the Great River Conference for the first time in over a decade. But the journey for the Dragons is not over. Pine City finished the regular season with a record of 21-5 and ended the season on a nine-game winning streak that was capped off with a 94-61 win over Hinckley-Finlayson.

The boys will now turn their focus to the Section 6AA tournament. The Dragons will see a tougher road to the State Tournament this year with the re-arranged section. The Section Coaches voted to drop the sub-section format and move to one 16-team tournament this season. The Seeds were QRF ranked and the Dragons ended up with the #8 seed.

Pine City will host #9 Holdingford. The Huskers come from the Central Minnesota Conference and finished the regular season with a 15-11 record. Pine City and Holdingford will come into the game with little knowledge of the other team. In fact, these two teams only have one mutual opponent: Foley. Both Pine City and Holdingford handled the Falcons fairly easily at the beginning of the season.

Tip-off from the first round of the section 6AA tournament is 7:00 at Pine City High School. The game can be heard on 106.5 FM/AM 1350.
