Adams and Berglund/Miller Place Third in Sections


The Pine City girls tennis team competed in the section individual tournament on Tuesday. Lydia Adams placed third in section 7A in singles and the duo of Maddie Berglund and Katie Miller also placed third.

Head coach Kristin Unverzagt said, "Overall the girls played tough and worked so hard today. I am so proud of their efforts and how they represented PCHS! They dug in and battled for each point. The matches were close and hard fought all day! Our singles players use great decisions and smart movement to keep their opponents off balance. Our doubles team was a threat when they capitalized on their strong net play."

The results would be a complete close to the season for the Dragons as the girls fell just short of qualifying for the State Tournament. Unverzagt added, "It is very hard to see the season come to an end because we had so much fun! They are an amazing group of young ladies and it is exciting to think about next season already!"

Ella Sell:

First Round: lost to Lydia Delich (Evelth Gilbert) 1-6, 1-6

Lydia Adams:

First Round: Brenna Bollins (Duluth Marshall) 6-1, 6-0

Second Round: Lydia Delich (Eveleth Gilbert) 2-6, 6-2, 5-7

Third Round: Courtney Bollins (Pequot Lakes) 6-4, 6-2

Maddie Berglund/Katie Miller:

First Round: Torrell/Edstrom (Eveleth Gilbert) 6-3, 6-3

Second Round: Lungren/Smith (Virginia) 6-4, 2-6, 3-6

Third Round: Lindseth/Beaudette (Eveleth Gilbert) 6-1, 6-1
