Dragons Hockey Competes in Thanksgiving Classic Tournament

The Dragons hockey team was at the Thanksgiving Classic tournament in Marshall Friday and Saturday.

The tournament did not start out the way the Dragons would’ve liked it to. Pine City fell the opening night to host Marshall, 4-0 Friday night. Head coach Grant Nicoll said, "The effort of the boys was there, but the bounces were NOT!!!! Marshall has one of the best goalies in the state and he showed why. We outshot them and out played them, but could not get one by their goaltender! In the end they added a couple scored to seal the deal and knock off the boys 4-0."

.Pine City took on Mound Westonka on Saturday. The illness bug had bit the Dragons and they went into that game with just 9 skaters. Nicoll said, "We had boys on the bench that came after the second period because they just finished 3 JV periods shorthanded. It took everyone, no matter how much they were on the ice, they were all a part of a GREAT CHARACTER WIN!!!!" Jimmy Lindblom opened up the scoring for the Dragons 8 seconds into the first period. The Whitehawks tied up the game at the 6:12 mark, before Pine City retook the lead just 45 seconds later on a goal from Howie Hodena. The 2nd period would go in favor of the Whitehawks, as they scored two goals to the Dragons one. The game went into the 3rd period tied at three. Neither team could net a goal in the 3rd which sent the game into overtime. In overtime, the game winning goal was scored by Parker Sell at the 6:48 mark. Nicoll added" I was very proud of the way these boys played today and that led to a much more enjoyable ride home."
